| The Chinese language program of ISC is consciously designed to offer you an opportunity to immerse in Chinese culture in the course of Mandarin language learning. The interactive classrooms intend to integrate improvements in all aspects of language skills needed for effective communication in China. |

| Time Schedule |
| New participants will be placed in an appropriate class program after a placement test. |
| Study core Chinese language courses 20 hours per week, intensive program
accepted.

| Placement Tests |
| First, participants will be divided into language classes according to the proficiency level indicated on the application form. At the start of the program, non-beginners will take a written and oral placement test. Second placements are made according to the results of the placement tests. |

| Proficiency Program Levels |
| Participants will be divided into different levels of Mandarin language classes according to their accessed Chinese level they have stated on the application form and the results of their placement tests conducted before the program starts. |

Beginner (Level A) |
|
This level includes participants who have never learned Chinese, or who have learned Chinese phonetics and a few words but cannot express themselves in complete sentences. |
|

Elementary (Level B) |
|
Participants in this level are required to know at least 800 Chinese words, have a basic knowledge of systematic grammar and sentence structure. |
|

Intermediate (Level C) |
|
Participants in this level are required to know at least 1,500 Chinese words and be able to construct basic paragraphs. |
|
 |
 |
 |
| |
Advanced (Level D) |
|
Participants in this class level are required to know at least 2,500 Chinese words and can express their opinions and discuss general topics with good intonation. |

 |

Proficient (Level E) |
|
Participants in this level are required to know at least 3,500 Chinese words. They should be able to read news from magazines, newspapers, understand radio broadcasts, and television, and can express themselves systematically using appropriate expressions and language norms. |

| Core Chinese Language Classes |
| • Oral Chinese Class: the class focuses on improving your pronunciation
of Chinese characters and the four tones as well as the intonation of
expressions in daily conversations.

| • Listening Class: the class focuses on improving your listening
comprehension skills through listening exercises in class. Listening
materials close to daily life are used.
|
| • Reading Comprehension Class: The class is designed to help developing
your reading speed and comprehension ability of Chinese articles while
building your vocabularies.

| • Writing Class: this class introduces the composition of Chinese
characters including the radical system,
bushou , and stroke orders. |
| • Grammar Class: grammar class focuses on the teaching of Chinese
word forming, sentence structures, and collocations.

| After-class tutoring |
| One of the great things of studying Mandarin Chinese in ISC is free after-class tutoring in the afternoon. Total program students/ ISC club members may make appointments with their supervisors and discuss their preferred topics as well as ask questions about what they miss in class or about homework. Much progress of Chinese language learning is made in tutoring with the help of our friendly and English-speaking staff. |

| Language Exchange Partners |
| Since one of our aims is to start a journey of experiencing Chinese culture in-depth while studying Chinese, the program also introduce Chinese students to participants. Participants and their language exchange partners may discover and learn more interesting things about each other's culture and languages outside language classrooms. |
